Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Tuesday fixed January 11 as the next date of hearing of PILs seeking prosecution of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and her Cabinet minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui in Taj Corridor case.
The date was fixed by Justices Abdul Mateen and YK Sangal after hearing Mayawati's lawyer and senior BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra.
Mishra in his argument said the Supreme Court had already quashed a SLP in this regard.
Three separate PILs were filed by Anupma Singh, Kamlesh Verma and K Ahmad challenging CBI court's June, 2007, order by which the proceeding of the case were dropped against Mayawati and Siddiqui.
The PIL has sought prosecution of Mayawati and Siddiqui for which the then UP Governor TV Rajeshwar had declined to grant statutory permission.
Through the PIL, the court's attention was drawn to the fact that the Governor's permission was not required for prosecution of those holding high public offices in case they were charged with criminal offences like cheating, fraud or forgery - as in the Taj case.
