New Delhi: Politics has begun over the twin terror attacks that took place in Jammu early on Thursday morning. With the attack coming just a few days ahead of the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, the parties have opposed any such talks in the wake of attacks.
The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) said that the talks with Pakistan should not be taking place in the backdrop of terror. "We condemn the twin attack in Jammu. This shows Pakistan continues its strategy through will. The talk of Indian PM with Pakistan in US is uncalled for," Javadekar said.
Reacting to the terror attack, BJP President Rajnath Singh also tweeted, "the PM is in a hurry to start dialogue with Pakistan. There should be no talks with Pakistan unless there is a conducive environment."
"we know from the past that Pakistan Army is behind terror attacks and if army in Pakistan does not want peace talks then why hold talks with Nawaz," BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said.
It's not just the BJP, but there are sounds of dissent within the Congress as well with Rashid Alvi saying that the Indo-Pak talks should be called off. "It has always happened that Pakistan or some people in Pakistan are responsible for terror attacks in India and if in this incident also people or organizations based in Pakistan are involved, then it is my opinion that there should be no talks with the Pakistan PM," Alvi said.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the terror attack and said that the attack is an 'obvious' step to derail the Indo-Pak talks. However, he said that the J&K government are committed to a peaceful resolution to all problems in the area.
Congress leader Meem Afzal said that "those who have done this have done this to derail the upcoming talks between leaders of both the countries."
"Such incidents should wake up the powers on both sides of the border. If we do not hold the talks, it will be disastrous for both the countries," National Conference (NC) leader Mustafa Kamal.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that despite the attack, the Indo-Pak talks will go on as scheduled.
