Mumbai: Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers clashed in Mumbai on Friday night even though the two parties are in an alliance and will fight the Maharashtra Assembly election together.

Sena workers protested outside a local BJP shakha at Girgaum in Mumbai on Friday night after rumours that the Girgaum seat had been given to BJP even though seat the seat sharing formula is yet to be finalised.

"This seat has traditionally been with the Shiv Sena. We will not let the BJP have it. There is no confirmation that the seat has been given to them so far but we will protest if it does go to them," said a Shiv Sena leader Meenal Zawadkar.

Though there was a minor scuffle between workers of both parties, police sources and workers from both parties denied that there was violence.

The saffron allies have been facing a deadlock over two seats mainly in Khadakwasla constituency of Pune.

The alliance for the October 13 Maharashtra Assembly elections is likely to be announced in Mumbai on Saturday.
