Mulayam to file review petition in SC
Mulyam would file a review petition in SC for a probe by an agency other than the CBI in the disproportionate assets case.

Lucknow: With hardly a fortnight left for the Uttar Pradesh elections to get under way, life seems to be getting tougher for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulyam Singh Yadav.

After the scare of President's rule, Mulayam is now facing the Supreme Court's decision on corruption charges.

However, the Samajwadi Party on Thursday said Mulyam would file a review petition in the Supreme Court for a probe by an agency other than the CBI into the allegations of disproportionate assets against him.

The CBI worked under the "pressure" of ruling Congress at the Centre and it could not be termed as an "independent agency", news agency PTI quoted SP General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav as saying.

The SC had ordered preliminary probe by CBI into the allegation that Yadav and his family members have amassed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Ram Gopal Yadav said the allegations against Yadav and his family members could be investigated by a sitting judge.

"We do not trust the CBI... Its track record in Quattrocchi matter and some other cases is not clean," Gopal alleged.
