MNS, SP to abstain from Mumbai Mayoral polls
The election will take place in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to elect its second consecutive woman Mayor on Monday.

While the Samajwadi Party announced on Monday that it would refrain from voting, Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is also likely to abstain from the Mayoral election.

“The six corporators of MNS would not be participating in the voting tomorrow (Tuesday) for the mayor's post,” MNS sources said.

The party would declare its official decision by tomorrow (Tuesday), they said on Monday.

Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi said “we cannot go with Shiv Sena-BJP alliance and Congress has betrayed us, so we would prefer abstaining the polls”.

In the 228-member House, Shiv Sena has 81 corporators, BJP 29, Akhil Bharatiya Sena two and three Independents. Congress has 77, Nationalist Congress Party 14, Samajwadi Party seven, and RPI three.
