Mid-term elections are a possibility: Mulayam
The Samajwadi Party chief claimed that both the Congress and the BJP are weakening and are busy on their own fronts

Kolkata: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday warned that the country could face mid-term polls while claiming that both the Congress and the BJP are weakening. "Both the national parties are not able to come up to the expectations of the people. They are busy on their own fronts," said Mulayam on the second day of his party's national executive in Kolkata.

Mulayam refused to divulge any further on the topic. "At times the situation is created that it seems that general elections could happen early but we cannot say anything," said Mulayam.

The SP chief also said that the Third Front is always made after elections. "The possibility of the Third Front will depend on the situation that develops after the elections."

Clarifying his party's plans, Mulayam said that his party will be working on its own strengths and will not talk to any other party. " We will maintain good relations with political parties with similar thinking," stated Mulayam.

Speaking about his relation with Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, Mulayam said, "I never had any bitterness towards Mamata. I have immense respect for her."

Targeting the Congress-led UPA over price rise, Mulayam said, "Wrong policies of the government are responsible for this. The government has not acted strongly against the hoarders."

However, he said his party will continue to support the Congress. "We can help the Congress in case the situation weakens. Our support to the Congress is only on one issue - that is a secular front."

Talking about Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, he said, "My best wishes for Rahul Gandhi. We will not make him the Prime Minister. It is his party that has to make him the Prime Minister."

What's your reaction?
