Mamata, Trivedi skip Roy's swearing-in ceremony
Mukul Roy said he will reply to the debate over the Rail Budget later this week.

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and outgoing Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Tuesday skipped the swearing-in ceremony of Mukul Roy as the new minister in the UPA Cabinet.

Roy, who is also the MoS for Shipping, refused to comment on the fare hike roll back outside Parliament. He said he will reply to the debate over the Rail Budget later this week. "Whatever I have to say I will say in Parliament as the Railway Budget is the property of Parliament. Since I am the Railway Minister, I will reply to the debate," he said.

"Safety, security and punctuality will be my priority as the Railway Minister," he said shortly after being sworn in as a minister.

Trivedi had to resign after Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee opposed the hike in passenger fares announced by him in the rail budget presented in parliament last week. Mamata had written to the Prime Minister that Trivedi should be replaced by Roy. Trivedi sent his resignation to the Prime Minister Sunday evening.
