Mamata to contest in WB bypolls on September 25
According to the schedule announced by the EC, the last date for filing of nominations would be September 5.

New Delhi: Bypolls will be held on September 25 to two assembly constituencies in West Bengal including Bhabanipur, from where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will contest, the Election Commission on Thursday announced.

Polling will also be held for Basirhat Uttar from 8 am to 5 pm and counting will take place on September 28.

State PWD Minister Subrata Bakshi, who won from Bhabanipur in the last polls, quit the seat to make way for Banerjee, who is not a member of the assembly.

Basirhat Uttar fell vacant after the death of CPI-M's Mostafa Bin Quasem.

According to the schedule announced by the EC, the notification would be issued on August 29 and the last date for filing of nominations would be September 5.

The scrutiny of nominations would be held on September 6 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is September 8. The election process shall be completed before September 30.

The EC said the model code of conduct would come into immediate effect in the districts. The electoral rolls for Basirhat Uttar and Bhabanipur constituencies have been revised with reference to January 1 as the qualifying date and published on January 5.
