Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday regreted that the state failed to achieve in the IT education the same level of growth which it attained in the general education sector.
Addressing the valedictory function of the two-day State School IT Festival at the Technopark here, Chandy said state had to focus more on developing IT education and related IT based industries.
In this context, Chandy pointed out that Kerala's IT export earnings was only Rs 3,260 crores while IT export of neighbouring Karnataka was more than Rs 77,000 crores.
As part of expanding the IT education in the state, computer education would be extended to primary school level from the next acadamic year, he said.
Chandy presented the Trophy to the leaders of Ernakulam Revenue District, which won the frist prize in the festival with 85 points.
