Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was hospitalised in Chennai after complaining of fever and dehydration, will be discharged in a few days, the hospital said on Sunday even as it dismissed as "totally false and baseless" reports of her flying abroad for further medical treatment.

"As part of the ongoing recuperation, the Chief Minister has been advised few more days of rest. She will be discharged from the hospital in a few days and will soon resume normal official duties," Apollo Hospitals Chief Operating Officer Subbiah Viswanathan said.

Addressing reporters, he said necessary investigation and tests were being carried out to prevent recurrence of fever and the 68-year-old AIADMK chief was on a "normal diet".

"The Chief Minister is responding well to the treatment and continues to get better," he added.

He said, meanwhile, "rumours and conjectures" were being circulated falsely in the social media about her health condition stating that she will be taken abroad for treatment.

"These are totally false and baseless. There is no question of taking her abroad for treatment. There is no necessity at all for this," Viswanathan added.

The fever was brought under control the very next day she was admitted, he said.

She was admitted to the hospital on September 22.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, DMK leaders M Karunanidhi and MK Stalin and the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Puducherry, Siddaramaiah and V Narayanasamy respectively, were among others who had wished speedy recovery to Jayalalithaa.
