Srinagar: Unruly scenes were witness outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in Srinagar as Independent MLA Engineer Rashid along with his supporters held protest outside the House on Friday. This even as the Assembly passed a resolution against Rashid's manhandling by BJP MLAs on Thursday for throwing a beef party.
Rashid is now being held in custody inside the Assembly by MLAs after he threatened to sit on protest till Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed furnishes an explanation on why the bill against beef ban was not allowed in the Assembly.
Unperturbed Rashid said, "I will sit here till the time Mufti Sahab comes and explains that why is he not letting the Anti-Beef Ban Bill come. How much time will he take to decide and take a call. They don't listen to us in the Assembly. They sabotage the Bill. Assembly has failed and let it now be like a people's assembly."
Unprecedented scenes were witnessed in the state Assembly on Thursday with Rashid being thrashed by BJP members for throwing a beef party, leading to pandemonium and opposition walkout.
Rashid and some BJP MLAs were involved in a physical clash inside the House, forcing intervention by the marshals to defuse the situation.
Rashid, who hosted beef party on Wednesday to defy High Court's directive on implementation of beef ban, was hit by the BJP MLAs after which he slapped back some of the rivals.
Several NC and Congress MLAs rushed to save him. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, a senior leader of BJP, later apologised for the incident in which his party colleagues were involved.
Rashid claimed that six to eight BJP legislators attacked him soon after he entered the House.
"As soon as the House started, I went to take my seat. The BJP MLAs, six to eight in number, came (towards me). While some of them grabbed me by neck and legs, others threw blows on my chest and I turned unconscious," Rashid had said.
"I really don't know what happened after that. (Opposition leader and former Chief Minister) Omar (Abdullah) (along with party colleagues) AM Sagar and Akbar Lone and Congress MLAs came and took me from my place," he had said.
