'Has Been UP's Political & Ideological Centre For Years...': Rahul Gandhi Recollects Childhood Memories in Rae Bareli
Gandhi said that today, the role of Rae Bareli should be of one that first shows the path to Uttar Pradesh's progress and development followed by the state once again showing the path of progress and development to India

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently took to social media and shared a video of him recollecting his childhood memories while passing through Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli, which is also the constituency from where he is contesting the Lok Sabha polls.

In the video posted on X, Gandhi was seen with his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He said Rae Bareli, which for years has been the state’s political and ideological centre, should again take the path to development for Uttar Pradesh and the country.

“Rae Bareli has an important role in India’s progress, in giving direction to the country. Rae Bareli has for years been Uttar Pradesh’s political and ideological centre, and it was Rae Bareli that showed the path in the freedom struggle,” Gandhi said in the video.

He further said, “Today, the role of Rae Bareli should be one that first shows the path to Uttar Pradesh’s progress and development and then Uttar Pradesh should once again show the path of progress and development to India.”

While sharing the video that captured a chit chat session of recollecting childhood memories with his sister, the Congress leader wrote, “While going to Raebareli, Priyanka and I also passed through the streets of our childhood for some time. There are so many sweet and sour memories, Grandma’s wisdom, Papa’s favourite Jalebis, the cakes made by Priyanka, it all seems like it all happened just yesterday. We have had a deep relationship with politics since childhood, but politics never came between our relationships.”

Congress leader and Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra added to the video saying, “Do not get diverted at any level in this election… Your vote is the biggest weapon in your hand. Use it effectively to change your future.”

Raebareli has been a Congress stronghold since the first general elections in 1952 when the seat was held by Feroze Gandhi, the husband of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. After he died in 1960, the Congress fielded RP Singh in the by-elections and retained the seat. Post this, Sonia Gandhi picked Raebareli, a seat she won for four consecutive terms.

This Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh will go to polls on May 20, as a part of the fifth phase of the polls. This time, the Congress has fielded Rahul Gandhi from the constituency.
