New Delhi: The run-up to Assembly elections in Gujarat has begun and a war of words has already started within the ruling BJP.
Senior BJP leader Keshubhai Patel on Sunday compared his arch-rival in the party and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with Adolf Hitler and said he would "draw the swords, if needed".
Patel was quoted as saying by PTI that Modi was elected in a democratic manner but ruled like a dictator and charged that "mini-emergency" prevailed in Gujarat.
The anti-Modi camp in BJP consolidated its position as Patel, Suresh Mehta and Kanshiram Rana – all senior leaders – attended a meeting of farmers in Kutch and spoke against Modi.
Patel, a former Chief Minister who had to make way for Modi, said "there is a fear factor in everybody".
"Nobody can express his opinion in the state. If partymen or MLAs speak truth, they are considered rebels. We are not rebles but have a different opinion from the government and not happy with its functioning", Patel was quoted as saying.
He accused the Modi government of not carrying out development activities and fully utilising funds and instead just making announcements about big projects.
