New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Monday accused the English language media of “exaggerating” crimes in Uttar Pradesh and misinforming people.
"Criminal cases in UP are exaggerated by English newspapers and the electronic media. Party workers have to counter this misinformation and tell people the true picture in the state," he said in Etawah.
The SP general secretary alleged Delhi had the maximum cases of rape and murders of elderly people in the country, but the media didn’t highlight the figures.
As many as 250 elderly couples have been murdered in the past few years, he alleged. In Mumbai, 45,000 kidnapped children had been forced to to beg or initiated in criminal activities.
He alleged that the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party were using the serial murders of children in Noida’s Nithari village for politics.
"In Assam where the Hindi-speaking people were brutally murdered, we provided monetary assistance of Rs one lakh each through district authorities to bereaved families."
Describing party president Mulayam Singh Yadav as “Aaj Ka Abhimanyu”, he said he was poised to lead his party to victory in upcoming state assembly polls in UP.
