D voters should not vote in Assam: HC

Guwahati: The Guwahati High Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission (EC) to ensure that the "D" voters (those whose citizenship are doubtful) are not allowed to vote in the ensuing Assam assembly election.

Responding to a PIL, Justice B K Sharma also directed that the Superintendent of Police of all the districts shall collect the names of such persons whose cases were pending in the foreigner’s tribunal and pass it on to the electoral officers.

Any dereliction of duty of the directions would be viewed seriously, he said. Justice Sharma further directed that the order should be carried out in a war footing.
