Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaiserganj, Brij Bhushan Singh on Friday claimed he was approached by the Congress party to fight the Lok Sabha polls.
“One senior leader of the congress party approached me and told me to contest from Congress,” he said.
Brij Bhushan Singh’s revelation comes the same day his son, Karan Bhushan Singh filed nomination from the Kaiserganj seat, earlier in the day. The BJP on Thursday announced Brij Bhushan Singh’s younger son, Karan Bhushan Singh’s candidature from the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat.
On Karan’s candidature from the Kaiserganj seat, Brij Bhushan said party workers “wanted my son, if not me, to contest”.
Brij Bhushan Singh is a three-term MP from the Kaiserganj constituency.
Brij Bhushan also expressed gratitude to the BJP for his son’s candidature. Karan, on the other hand, visited Ayodhya’s Hanuman Garhi temple to offer his prayers following his candidature announcement. He said, “I came here to seek the blessings of Bajrang Bali. He is my Guru…”
BJP’s decision to field Karan from Kaiserganj constituency comes days after a Delhi court dismissed MP Brij Bhushan Singh’s plea seeking further probe into the sexual harassment case filed against him by women wrestlers.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Priyanka Rajpoot of Rouse Avenue Courts will pronounce the order on framing of charges in the case on May 7.
Last week Brij Bhushan Singh had blamed the media for the delay in the announcement of his name as the BJP candidate from Kaiserganj constituency.
Singh had said, “The worry of the ticket is that of mine. You (media) people need not worry. The announcement of my candidature is getting delayed because of you people.”
