New Delhi: The Congress which is looking for a way out the ordinance mess, held a meeting of its core group on Wednesday. The Congress core group has said that the Cabinet should reconsider the ordinance on convicted MPs, sources said.

According to sources, the Congress core group, however, also feels that allies should be taken on board.

Rahul Gandhi, who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had a cordial talk with him, but did not apologise for his public outburst. The Prime Minister also met the President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhawan to discuss the Ordinance controversy. However there has been no official confirmation on what transpired between two leaders.

The Union Cabinet, which is scheduled to meet later in the evening, is expected to take up the issue. According to high level sources, either it will withdraw the ordinance or it may call for a meeting of the UPA allies before formally discarding the controversial ordinance.
