Centre should make provision for MBCs: Nitish
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar flayed the UPA govt for "alluring the minority community" ahead of Assembly polls in 5 states.

Patna: The Centre should make separate provision for Most Backward Castes under 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Castes if it is "really serious" about the betterment of MBCs, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Tuesday.

Kumar, who was speaking at a function to observe the 88th birth anniversary of late Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur, opposed four per cent reservation for backward Muslims under 27 per cent OBC reservation and flayed the UPA government at the Centre for "alluring the minority community" ahead of Assembly polls in five states.

It was unlikely to change the conditions of backward Muslims and may create discord among the minority and the majority population, he said.

If the Centre was "really sincere" about ameliorating the condition of the Muslims, it should amend the Constitution to increase reservation beyond 50 per cent, Kumar said.

He said it was "common knowledge who was responsible for the plight of the Muslims as Congress and its allies have ruled the country for the better part of 64 years since Independence".
