The BJP is preparing to reach out to more than 50 lakh “Gen Z” voters between 18 and 23 years of age for the Lok Sabha elections in a nationwide campaign called ‘NaMo Navmatdata Sammelan’.
Youngsters can register for the campaign by giving a missed call on BJP’s mobile number. Alternatively, a QR code is also being circulated for youngsters, who have grown up with such mediums. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Mocha (BJYM) will help them virtually listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi live on January 25 morning at 5,000 locations.
Recently, BJP president JP Nadda kicked off the campaign.
There are roughly 1,000 first-time voters in each of the 1,000 of the total 5,000 locations across India. “We aim to bring 50 lakh first-time voters into the BJP fold before January 25,” said a source. Each location will have LED screens through which Modi will interact.
BJP Yuva Morcha national president Tejaswi Surya, who has been spearheading the campaign, told News18, “PM Modi Ji’s dynamic policies, including Skill India, Start-up India, and the New Education Policy, are heralding a transformative era for India’s youth, empowering them with opportunities and fostering holistic development.” He further said as beneficiaries of ‘New India’, this message will be communicated to the Gen Next.
A source said each assembly seat will have at least one such convention while few assembly seats in bigger states such as Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will have more than one ‘Sammelan’. India has a total of 4,123 assembly constituencies. This makes a total of 5,000 locations for the ‘NaMo Navmatdata Sammelan’ on January 25.
Another source further said apart from receiving registrations from the mobile number and QR code provided by the BJP, their young cadres will also scan coaching centres, education institutes, and playgrounds, which first-time voters frequent.
While most of these Gen Next voters are not privy to problems such as lack of air connectivity, rampant power cuts, IIMs being limited to few cities, and only one AIIMS in Delhi — the BJP’s youth wing will present them a picture of what has changed in the last 10 years.
“From the first page to the last, our journey resonates in newspapers nationwide, a testament to the remarkable transformation under Modi Ji,” Surya told News18. The BJP and its youth brigade want to make first-time voters aware of this “transformation”.
Already efforts are afoot to reach out to these first-time voters. While official numbers are yet to be released, estimates show that there will be around 15 crore first-time voters this year. The BJP wants to ensure 50 lakh are on their side by January 25, even before the election dates are announced.
