Chennai: The row over the ban of a student group in IIT Madras seems to be far from over. Reports suggest BJP National secretary H Raja has slammed IIT Madras administration for lifting the ban on the student group Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle.

Raja reportedly wrote a letter to the IIT Madras director saying the institution should have taken a witten assurance from the group to stop promoting an anti-Hindu agenda. Copies of the letter were also sent to the PM and the HRD ministry. The Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle was banned last month for allegedly criticising PM Modi. The Centre was accused of strong-arming IIT Madras.

Facing criticism over the action taken against the Dalit students body, Indian Institute of Technology-Madras on Sunday had reinstated Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle (APSC) which had been derecognised.

The students body was "derecognised" following an allegation that it was instigating hatred against the Prime Minister, and policies like promotion of Hindi and ban on beef. IIT-Madras and the Central government received a lot of criticism from the opposition parties for this decision.
