Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress music video, which claims that the face of West Bengal has changed in the last five years, has been played around 70,000 times across various digital platforms since it was released Saturday night.
TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee released the video on her Facebook page Saturday night, saying, "I am very happy to share the new music video 'The Trinamool Song' for the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly elections".
The two-minute video has the new party anthem "Paanch bochore bodle geche banglar mukh" (The face of Bengal has changed in the last five years) written and composed by Anupam Roy, best known for his songs in films like 'Autograph' and 'Piku'.
"This is the first state election campaign song to make its debut on Facebook and has gone viral very quickly. It is remarkable how they have made it so catchy and apt for the digital medium," Ankhi Das, Public Policy, Director of Facebook, told PTI.
She said with some great music, the video has captured five years of work done by the party in just two minutes. "It is an interesting way of electioneering," Das said. On Banerjee's Facebook page alone, the video has over 45,000 hits.
"Other party leaders like Abhishek Banerjee has also shared it on their Facebook pages. And it is also on YouTube," Trinamool's national spokesman and party MP Derek O'Brien said.
"The match has started and we are already batting well in the fourth over without losing any wicket. And the Opposition is still in the dressing room. We have the backing of the good work done by our government in the last five years," he said.
Directed by Anindya Chatterjee, lead vocalist of Bangla band Chandrabindoo, the video highlights the work done by the Mamata Banerjee government after being voted to power in 2011. It has also been released on TV channels and FM radio.
