However, the Banda rape case seems to cast a shadow over Mayawati's birthday celebrations.

About the rape case, Mayawati said the UP government is committed to provide justice to a common man. She further said CB-CID team was investigating whether theft charges on the girl were made to pressurise her.
She assured of strict action against the MLA if charges are proven. She also promised strict action against the police personnels if it is found that they were in a hurry in putting a theft case against the girl.
The UP chief minister also announced over Rs 4,000 crore worth of schemes urging the officials to complete the project within a designated time frame. There are also plans to distribute cake and sweets among the masses.
Ram Manohar Lohia Law University has been decked up with hoardings and lights. Besides launching power projects worth over Rs 1,100 crore, Asia's biggest sewage treatment plant in Lucknow will be inaugurated by her on Saturday.
