Thiruvananthapuram: The fight against corruption and communalism would be the plank of Left parties in the coming elections to five state assemblies, RSP General Secretary T J Chandrachoodan said on Saturday.
Noting that the polls were crucial for the Left movement in the country, he said people were eagerly awaiting the outcome of the polls in West Bengal and Kerala.
He alleged that the Congress-led government at the Centre was protecting corrupt forces in the country. "The UPA is ready to stoop to any level to shield the corrupt. When caught, they shirk responsibility by apologising," he said.
While Tamil Nadu Chief Minster M Karunanidhi and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram were holding seat-sharing talks at the DMK headquarters on Friday, CBI was questioning the former's daughter DMK MP Kanimozhi in connection with the 2G spectrum scam in the same building, exposing the Congress stand on corruption, he said.
He alleged that a section of the media in Kerala was playing the Opposition's role by projecting the minor faults of the ruling LDF and hiding negative news items about UDF.
On the question of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan leading the LDF again, he said it was upto the CPI-M to decide its leader.
To a question, he said the RSP was not fully satisfied with the number of seats allotted to it by the LDF leadership.
Elections to the Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assemblies will be held on April 13 while it will be a six-phase poll in West Bengal starting April 18 and two-phase in Assam on April 4 and 11. Counting of votes in all the five states will take place on May 13.
