New Delhi: After supporting the government in getting the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill passed in the Lok Sabha, the Congress party will not cause any hindrance in its clearance in the Rajya Sabha too, said senior party leader Anand Sharma.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, Sharma said, "The government has addressed the concerns expressed by the Congress party. The required amendments have been brought. The Bill will be passed in Rajya Sabha."
Congress support comes as a breather for the Bharatiya Janata Party as it does not have the required numbers to get the Bill passed on its own in the Upper House.
The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014 and Constitutional Amendment Bill. The Bill will next be taken up in Rajya Sabha.
While The Constitution (121st Amendment) Bill, 2014 seeks to put the proposed Commission and its entire composition in the Constitution, the other legislation lays down the procedure to be followed by the proposed body for appointment of Supreme Court judges and transfer and appointment of chief justices and other judges of the high courts.
