New Delhi: A day after sensational news reports claimed that Income Tax department had found unaccounted income and investment worth Rs 130 crores in raids on AAP MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar's house and office, sources close to Tanwar termed it as a clear case of manipulation even as the AAP leader met senior leaders over the issue.
Sources told News18 that Tanwar arrived with heaps of documents to prove his innocence and even met senior party leaders over the issue.
The only time Tanwar had gone to the Income Tax department office was to retrieve his phone, which was given back to him following a written application.
Tanwar also showed leaders the list of eleven, (not 30-35 companies as claimed in media reports) of which he was a director.
Of these eleven companies, Tanwar continues to be a director of four of the companies.
Tanwar has claimed that he has no property that is undisclosed and he has filed all the relevant IT returns and has never indulged in benami transactions.
He has also said that all his income and, income from assets is accounted for.
According to IT sources, the department had seized unaccounted cash and jewellery of about Rs 1 crore from Tanwar and his brother.
IT sources also claimed that the raids have unearthed a huge farm house scam, where deals in the area of Chattarpur and Ghitorni were being done in cash by Tanwar and his associates.
He was also accused of indulging in Benami transactions.
However, the seizure memo dated 28th July by the IT department says that cash found is Rs 11.25,095/- while the cash released: Rs 75,075/-, cash seized : Rs 10,50,000/-.
Tanwar comes from a well to do family and had inherited ancestral property including land.
