Batting great Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that Virat Kohli will score his 50th ODI century on his birthday when India will face South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Kohli has been in incredible form in the ongoing World Cup as he has already scored 354 runs which includes a century and three half-centuries. The batting maestro had a chance to score another century against New Zealand in India’s last match at Dharamsala but he missed out on the mark and was caught out on 95.
Kohli is two short of the magical 50-century mark in ODIs and one behind Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of most hundred in the ODI format – 49.

India will next face England on October 29 in Lucknow, followed by Sri Lanka on November on November 2 and then they will clash against one of the favourites South Africa on November 5 which is also Kohli’s 35th birthday.
Gavaskar predicted that Kohli will make his birthday extra special by scoring his 50th ODI century. However, for that Kohli also had to score a century against England or Sri Lanka in the upcoming matches.
“Kohli will slam his 50th ODI Century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday? It’s a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savour for every batter,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Recently, Kohli also gave an insight into how the motto of chasing betterment over excellence is fueling his drive to win matches for the team.
“I have always worked on how I can be better myself every day, every practice session, every year and every season. So, that is what has helped me play for this long and perform. I don’t think it is possible to perform consistently without having that mindset, because if performance is your goal, then one can get satisfied after a while, and stop working on their game,” he said to Star Sports.
