Legendary Indian opener Sachin Tendulkar will be honoured at the Wankhede Stadium with a life-size statue of the Master Blaster set to be unveiled in Mumbai ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka ODI World Cup 2023 contest.
On Tuesday, the finishing touches were being given to Tendulkar’s statue ahead of the replay of the ODI World Cup 2011 final on Thursday. Sachin had turned 50 earlier in April, and his life-size statue will be placed alongside the Sachin Tendulkar stand at Wankhede.
The inauguration ceremony of Tendulkar’s statue will be attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the legendary Tendulkar, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar along with officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), president Amol Kale, secretary Ajinkya Naik and other members of the apex council.

The statue has been made by Pramod Kamble, a painter-sculptor from Ahmednagar in the state.

Tendulkar’s statue, at his home ground Wankhede Stadium, is being installed nearly 10 years after he played his last game for India here, against the West Indies in a two-match Test series in November 2013.
Meanwhile, India and Sri Lanka will renew their rivalry in the World Cup as the two sides gear up to lock horns where the last met in the 2011 final. India had outclassed the Lankan Lions by 10 wickets the last time these two sides played each other in the Asia Cup final earlier in September.

Since then, the Rohit Sharma-led unit have embarked on an unbeaten winning streak of six matches during the World Cup group stage, while Sri Lanka are languishing in sixth place on the points table with just two wins from six matches.
While India are guaranteed a place in the semifinals, they will look to finish top of the table to ensured they face the fourth-placed team according to the format of the World Cup, Kusal Mendis and Co. will look to finish in the top seven to ensure themselves of a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
