Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated an additional 17-kilometre section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) that will allow commuters to cover the distance between Sahibabad and Modinagar in about 35 minutes. Earlier, it would take over an hour by road to traverse the distance.
In October 2023, PM Modi inaugurated the 17-km stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad. It covered five stations. With the inauguration of the additional section, the rapid train has now connected eight stations and covers 34 kilometres — Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modinagar South, and Modinagar North.
So far, the commuters could either cover the distance by road or by local trains. But with the inauguration of the section, they can now cover the whole distance in about 35 minutes.
The train offers two classes to commuters — five standard coaches and a premium coach. Entry to the premium coach will be accessible only through a premium lounge situated in one corner made at the platform level across the section.
Those travelling in the premium class have to go through two entry points — one at the entrance of the station where the ticket will be scanned and one at the platform. Across the classes, RRTS offers comfortable cushioned seats.
