PM Modi inaugurated an additional 17 kilometre section of the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System on Wednesday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated an additional 17-kilometre section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) that will allow commuters to cover the distance between Sahibabad and Modinagar in about 35 minutes. Earlier, it would take over an hour by road to traverse the distance.

In October 2023, PM Modi inaugurated the 17-km stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad. It covered five stations. With the inauguration of the additional section, the rapid train has now connected eight stations and covers 34 kilometres — Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modinagar South, and Modinagar North.

So far, the commuters could either cover the distance by road or by local trains. But with the inauguration of the section, they can now cover the whole distance in about 35 minutes.

The train offers two classes to commuters — five standard coaches and a premium coach. Entry to the premium coach will be accessible only through a premium lounge situated in one corner made at the platform level across the section.

Those travelling in the premium class have to go through two entry points — one at the entrance of the station where the ticket will be scanned and one at the platform. Across the classes, RRTS offers comfortable cushioned seats.

FARES AND TIMINGS

The commercial train operation on the inaugurated section – Murad Nagar to Modinagar North – will start from Friday (February 8). The train service will be available for commuters from 6 am to 8 pm for the entire section from Sahibabad to Modinagar North. The last train will start at 8 pm from both sides – Sahibabad and Modinagar North.

The fare ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 90 for standard class, while it is between Rs 40 and Rs 180 for premium class.

Between Sahibabad and Modinagar North, commuters will have to pay Rs 90 for standard class and Rs 180 for premium class.

For Duhai, the fare is Rs 40 and Rs 80 depending on the class while for Duhai Depot, it is Rs 50 and Rs 100. For Murad Nagar, it will be Rs 60/Rs 120 and for Modinagar South, it is Rs 80/Rs 160.
