Lakhimpur Reaches Doors of SC, CJI to Hear Case; UP Min Blames SP-Cong ‘Conspiracy’
Senior UP minister Suresh Rana said SP and Congress planned a riot in the state, but due to alertness of CM Yogi Adityanath, such plans have been foiled.

The Supreme Court has taken suo-motu cognisance of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence and a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) N. V. Ramana will hear the matter on October 7.

Meanwhile, in a big allegation, the Yogi Adityanath government on Wednesday alleged that the Lakhimpur violence, which has left eight persons dead, is a “joint conspiracy” of the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, who “wanted to incite a riot in Uttar Pradesh”.

Senior state minister Suresh Rana made the allegation in a statement on Wednesday evening as Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Lakhimpur to meet the families of the deceased farmers. Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav is also expected to visit the families in Lakhimpur tomorrow.

“Seeing the elections near, both SP and the Congress planned a riot in the state. But due to alertness and good judgement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, such plans have been foiled. Videos of the inflammatory speeches given by Congress worker Gurmaneet Singh and a confidante of Akhilesh Yadav, Tejinder Singh Virk, are proof of this conspiracy. The judicial probe will soon expose the conspiracy of the opposition. This judicial probe has been ordered given the sensitivity of the case and keeping the feelings of farmers in mind. Very soon, all will be clear,” Suresh Rana said.

The BJP claimed it has videos of the two men in question making inflammatory speeches just before the incident took place. Virk has also been named as an accused in a counter-case lodged by families of the three BJP workers killed. BJP claims Virk is linked to Samajwadi Party. Virk was seriously injured in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Rana added that Congress and SP governments have a history of inciting riots like the 1984 anti-sikh riots and the Muzaffarnagar riots in Uttar Pradesh, respectively.

“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath showed exemplary leadership in the Lakhimpur case, cancelled all his pre-existing programmes and stayed up all night on Sunday to keep a hawk eye on each development,” Rana added. He said the situation in Lakhimpur is now peaceful and under control due to the same and the farmers were satisfied with the government’s action.

“But seeing their politics fail, SP and Congress in their frustration are giving senseless statements,” Rana said.
