Kerala Serial Blasts: Serial blasts hit the Jehovah's Witness Convention in the Kalamassery area of Kerala's Ernakulam district on Sunday

Security has been ramped up in Mumbai, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh after serial blasts hit the Jehovah’s Witness Convention in the Kalamassery area of Kerala’s Ernakulam district on Sunday during a mass prayer killing a woman and wounding and injuring 52 others.

The prayer meeting, which was held in Kalamassery about 10 kilometres from Kochi, was attended by nearly 2,000 people. It was the final day of a three-day prayer meet which began on October 27.

Extra Security In Churches, Metro and Railway Stations Across Delhi

Delhi Police on Sunday said that security was beefed up around churches and at metro stations in the national capital in the wake of the Kerala convention centre blast on Sunday.

“The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is in constant touch with intelligence agencies and is taking any input seriously. Security arrangements are being made at crowded places,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.

Security has been tightened across main markets, churches, metro stations, bus stands, railway stations, and other public places.

“Teams have been informed to put barricades on the border area from the Uttar Pradesh Side and Haryana side. Police in civil dress, riders and PCRs have been asked to stay on alert and not to ignore any information they receive,” an officer said.

Mumbai on High Alert

Similarly, the Mumbai Police has issued a high alert notice across the city and increased security given the festive season, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent blasts in Kerala.

“We are always on alert, no separate alert has been given, but we are careful because big cities like Mumbai and Pune are in Maharashtra. We have to constantly take care that no wrong activities take place. Our efforts are going on in that direction,” Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said.

According to the police, security has already been stepped up at Chabad House, a Jewish centre in Mumbai, owing to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

All Uttar Pradesh Districts On High Alert

After the serial blasts in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh SDG Law and Order Prashant Kumar on Sunday ordered all the districts to remain alert. All the security agencies were also alerted, and teams are busy investigating the inputs received in the past few days.

“Every program related to the Israel-Hamas conflict will be monitored. Orders have been given to keep special surveillance in several districts including Kanpur, Meerut, Varanasi, Aligarh, Lucknow, Hapur, Baghpat, Bareilly, Rampur, and Agra,” said SDG.

Serial Blasts in Kerla During Prayer Meet

One woman died and over 50 persons were injured, in multiple blasts at a Christian religious gathering in a convention centre near this port city on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves across Kerala.

The blasts occurred at an international convention centre in Kalamassery where hundreds of followers of Jehovah’s Witnesses had assembled on the concluding day of their three-day-long prayer meeting.

Tamil Nadu and Karnataka

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have increased security and checks at all entry points from Kerala following blasts at a convention centre in Ernakulam.

Random checks will also be conducted on vehicles coming from Kerala at all entry points. There are seven major and seven minor entry points from Kerala into Karnataka, and a higher number of police personnel will be deployed at each of these locations.
