Here's how Google's new tool is transforming images into 'surreal' artwork

New Delhi: When Google made public its artificial neural network algorithm, little did it realize that soon the virtual world will be flooded with the #deepdream images that look no less than surrealism blended with dog faces and water animals everywhere possible.

DeepDream code is the newest to come from Google’s experimental lab and is a visualization tool that feeds an image through a layer of artificial neurons, asking artificial intelligence to enhance and build on certain features. It is aimed to understand how neural networks work and what each layer has learned.

However, Google realized that the process distorted images to such an extent that it also generated some artwork by transforming regular images into surreal imagery and decided to make the algorithm public.

What followed next were the #deepdream images on the social media; from really mesmerizing images to some seriously weird transformations. Here’s what some of them look like:

One thing consistent in the transformation of images is the use of animal faces and sea creatures. Perhaps Google might want to take a look at this phenomenon and hold people still from transforming their food into sea horses and human faces into those of dogs.
