Does the Covid vaccine debate hold true? Looks like. The largest global Covid study, covering 90 million vaccinated people, has found that the shots from companies like Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca were linked to rare brain, heart and blood disorders.
Researchers from the Global Vaccine Data Network – a research arm of World Health Organization – found that the Covid vaccinations exacerbated 13 different medical conditions that were considered “adverse events of special interest”.
The study considered nearly 100 million vaccinated people from eight countries: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, New Zealand and Scotland.
What are the Key Findings?
The study, recently published in the journal Vaccine, found a slight increase in neurological, blood, and heart-related issues following vaccination.
Rare cases of myocarditis—inflammation of the heart—were identified in the first, second and third doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s and Moderna’s mRNA vaccines: The highest rate was seen after the second Moderna dose (6.1 times the expected rate of cases), according to the study as quoted in Forbes.
Pericarditis – another heart condition – had 6.9-fold increased risk in those who took a third dose of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, while a first and fourth dose of Moderna had 1.7-fold and 2.6-fold increased risk, respectively.
There was a greater risk of developing a rare neurological disorder — Guillain-Barre syndrome – among those who took the AstraZeneca shots, and had 3.2 times risk of getting blood clots.
There was a 3.8-times greater risk of developing the neurological disorder acute disseminated encephalomyelitis after taking the Moderna vaccine, and a 2.2-fold increased risk after AstraZeneca’s vaccine, according to the study.

Dr Marc Siegel, a clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, stressed the overall safety and benefits of vaccination, as told to Fox News.
Another expert, Jacob Glanville, CEO of biotechnology company Centivaix, said the odds of experiencing adverse events from the vaccine remain significantly lower than those from contracting Covid-19, during an interview with Forbes.
How Indians were Affected?
A new study by Christian Medical College, Vellore, showed that those who survived Covid-19 suffered significant lung and respiratory problems compared to Europeans and Chinese.
The study pointed out while most recovered within a year of Covid-19 infection, others had permanent lung damage.
The study was done during the first wave of the pandemic in India on 207 Indians. Subjects were made to underwent pulmonary function tests, six-minute walking test, chest radiography, and St. George’s respiratory questionnaire.
“In a large Indian cohort, we have reported the presence of post-Covid-19 residual lung damage, as assessed by lung function tests, exercise capacity, chest radiography and quality of life measurements. Our population reported relatively higher symptomatology and comorbidities and greater lung function impairment, compared to most published studies. We have shown that post-Covid-19 lung damage results in significant impairment of lung function, quality of life and effort tolerance,” said the study.
