After Mohammed Shami's World Cup Heroics, UP Government to Build a Mini Stadium, Gym in His Village
Mohammed Shami has taken 23 wickets in six matches at the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup.

Mohammed Shami is having a dream world cup, breaking records for fun. The right-arm pacer has stormed to 23 wickets in just six matches, playing a prominent role in Indian cricket team’s run to the final of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup where they will face Australia now.

Shami took a seven-wicket haul against New Zealand in the first semi-final played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to break the record for the best figures by an Indian bowler in ODIs.

Following his latest exploits, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to build a mini stadium and a gym at Shami’s village.

“A proposal has been made to construct a mini-stadium and open gym in the village (Sahaspur Alinagar) of Mohammed Shami,” Rajesh Tyagi. District Magistrate Amroha said.

Shami’s sensational run began in Dharamsala where he played his first match of the competition against New Zealand last month. He missed India’s opening four matches as the team paired went with allrounder Hardik Pandya as their third pacer.

However, Pandya got injured against Bangladesh following which Shami was included into the playing XI for the New Zealand contest and he repaid the faith with a five-wicket haul.

He then left England high and dry with a four-wicket haul and followed that with a crushing blow to Sri Lanka with yet another five-wicket haul.

Against South Africa, on a pitch that favoured the spinners, he registered his presence with two wickets before going wicketless against the Netherlands in Bengaluru.

However, he was back to his wicket-taking form in the semi-final, returning figures of 7/57 as India defeated New Zealand to enter their fourth ever ODI world cup final.

Shami was born in UP but after repeatedly missing out on selection, switched to Bengal where he polished his skills further to make his Ranji debut for the team.

After impressing in domestic circuit. he made his India debut in January 2013 and has since played 64 Tests, 100 ODIs and 23 T20Is.
