Was Deepika Padukone 'Rejected' From Dhoom 3 At The Last Minute By Aamir Khan?

Deepika Padukone is one of Bollywood’s most popular actresses. She continues to shine in their own fields with exemplary performances back to back. Be it in the blockbuster Pathaan or her cameo in Jawan is winning hearts, the actress has proved her talent every time. However, the journey towards becoming one of the most sought-after actresses in the industry was not easy. Deepika did face rejections, and once they came from the lead actor who was part of the film, A clip from one of Deepika’s old interviews is doing the rounds on the internet, where she narrates how an actor swapped her in a blockbuster film. Her fans have connected the dots and speculated that the said actor was Aamir Khan and the film was Dhoom 3.

A fan page of Deepika Padukone shared a clip from her interview with Jitesh Pillai. In the short video, the actress narrated, “At that point, I felt that that film would have done a lot for my career by just being a part of that film. I met the producer, and he was like, we are very sure, but the actor is travelling. Let me discuss it with him. That actor was travelling, but consider it done. Let him come back, and I will discuss it with him. It’ll be done.” The actress stated that she was very excited about the film as she thought he has secured the role but, she added, “I suddenly found out that I was no more in film. Basically, there had been some sort of a swap.”

She further said that due to this, she ended up doing Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which was a breakthrough for her career. She stated, “Basically, I ended up doing a film, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, that I’m so happy I did. I’m so happy that it fell into my lap. It’s the best thing that could’ve happened to me. It was a classic example of when things happen, they happen for a reason.”

Reportedly, Katrina Kaif was the first choice for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, but later, she was the one who starred in Dhoom 3. Netizens inferred that this is the “Swap” Deepika mentioned, and the actor was Aamir Khan, who was one of the leads in Dhoom 3. One user said, “She is taking about Dhoom 3. Aamir considered Katrina instead of Deepika & Deepika then did YJHD which was not just hit in that year. This movie is & will be always called that classic, iconic mainstream comfortable, evergreen movie of the entire era.”

This also sparked a debate over whether lead actors should have a say in the casting of their movies. One user said, “Ppl talk about nepotism but here it wasn’t about that but ppl mostly don’t talk about such things where male actor make decisions or get their fav and all.” Others criticised Aamir Khan and compared him to other leading actors. One user wrote, “Then there is SRK who did a film with lots of debutant actresses!”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Deepika Padukone will soon be seen in Fighter opposite Hrithik Roshan.
