Despite getting positive reviews from critics, Kangana Ranaut starrer Tejas failed to leave a mark at the box office on its opening day. As reported by the industry tracker Sacnilk, Tejas earned close to Rs 1 crore on Friday, October 27. Reportedly, the film had an occupancy of 5.57% in the Hindi-speaking areas until afternoon.
As per a report by Times Now, Tejas managed to sell only 3,000 tickets across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. However, News18 Showsha cannot vouch for the authenticity of the report.
It will now be interesting to see if Tejas will pick up at the box office over the weekend. If this movie also fails to leave a mark at the box office, it will be Kangana Ranaut’s fifth flop in a row after Dhaakad (2022), Thalaivii (2021), Panga (2020) and Judgementall Hai Kya (2019). On the other hand, Kangana’s recently released Chandramukhi 2 had earned close to Rs 40 crore.
In Tejas, Kangana is playing the role of an Air Force pilot who is on a mission to fight terrorism. Reportedly, Kangana dedicated four months to rigorous training to master the specialised combat techniques employed by the Indian forces, for her film. Produced by RSVP, the film boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Anshul Chauhan, Varun Mitra, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Vishak Nair in pivotal roles. The movie is directed by Sarvesh Mewara and produced by Ronnie Screwvala.
News18 Showsha’s review of Tejas reads, “Disjointed for the most part and rushing from one scene to the next, the 118-minute movie appears to have been assembled out of an unruly hunk of footage. Writer-director Mewara throws everything they have at the screen – battles in the skies and on the ground, patriotic speeches thankfully they aren’t chest thumping and a bit of Pakistan bashing. The film surely picks up pace in the second half as the action moves to the battlefield. The scenes involving aerial attack in the climax have been shot well. It’s commendable that the tone remains steady and never loud and jingoistic.”
Meanwile, Kangana will next be seen in Emergency. The film will be released next year.
