Rohit Shetty laid the foundation of the ‘high-octane’ cop universe with the 2011 action film Singham. Fast forward three years and then the versatile film-maker churned out the sequel in the form of Singham 2. However, following that, he dedicated his time to creating spinoffs for the franchise in the form of Simmba and Sooryavanshi. Now Shetty is all set to bring back the Singham craze with Singham 3, the film which is expected to go on the floors soon with Ajay Devgn, has been making all the headlines. And now speculations are rife that Arjun Kapoor might be playing the antagonist in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe.
As per the sources close to the entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama, Arjun Kapoor will collectively face four firebrand cops from the universe. The source revealed, “Yes, Arjun Kapoor is joining the Rohit Shetty cop universe and this is the biggest surprise which Rohit and his team have kept under wraps. However, the twist in the tale is the fact that Arjun is playing the part of a villain and not the hero. Arjun will be the villain against the 4 supercops – Singham, Simmba, Sooryavanshi and Lady Singham.”
The source further shared that Arjun Kapoor is already in the preparation mode for the much-awaited addition to the Indian cop universe, “Rohit is very particular about his casting and is going all out to make this the biggest film of Indian Cinema. He brought the biggest stars of Indian Cinema on board and is all ready to blast the box office with this action packed thriller,” the source concluded.
Previously, while promoting his daredevil show Khatron Ke Khiladi, Rohit Shetty had shared his plans for Singham 3 with Indian Express. He had revealed, “I am focusing on the next chapter of Singham. We will be starting the film in April next year, after Cirkus releases. While Singham is technically part of Simba and Sooryavanshi, it’s been a long time since I worked with Ajay. The last Singham came in 2014 and is yet one of the most favourite films on satellite. Time has changed and the canvas has become bigger and I have been wanting to make something with Ajay.”
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s Singham 3 is expected to clash with another highly-awaited sequel Pushpa: The Rule. It was reported yesterday that both Rohit and Ajay are planning to delay the release of their movie in order to avoid the clash with Pushpa 2.
If a report in Bollywood Hungama is to be believed, several meetings were held at Rohit Shetty’s office in Mumbai in the last couple of days in which it was decided to postpone Singham 3 to avoid the mega clash with Pushpa 2: The Rule.
“Neither Rohit Shetty nor Ajay Devgn are egoistic to stick to a date that hampers the business prospect for their own film. Of course, they were upset with the decision of Allu Arjun to arrive uninformed at a date already announced by a potential blockbuster like Singham, but then, they don’t wish to go the same route as Pushpa team by going in a clash scenario,” a source cited by the entertainment portal claimed.
