Randeep Hooda Says He Locked Himself Up In Jail To Prepare For Veer Savarkar

Renowned actor Randeep Hooda recently took to Instagram to honour Veer Savarkar on his death anniversary. In his tribute, Hooda hailed Savarkar as one of the eminent figures of “Bharat Mata,” applauding his profound intellect and unwavering courage. He recounted Savarkar’s enduring legacy, noting how the British incarcerated him in a tiny 7 by 11-foot cell in Kalapani for five decades.

Hooda went on to share a poignant insight from his preparation for Savarkar’s biopic. He revealed that he voluntarily confined himself within the same jail cell to gain a deeper understanding of Savarkar’s ordeal. However, he humbly admitted that he couldn’t endure even twenty minutes in such confinement, contrasting it with Savarkar’s eleven years of solitary imprisonment.

In the images shared, Hooda is captured inside the cell with folded hands towards a framed picture of Savarkar. Another photo shows him seated on the floor, eyes looking above seemingly observing the cell. Alongside these snapshots, Hooda also included the poster of the upcoming biopic, showcasing his dedication to portraying Savarkar’s remarkable journey.

“Today is the punyatithi (death anniversary) of one of the greatest sons of Bharat Mata. Leader, Fearless Freedom Fighter, Writer, Philosopher & Visionary #SawatantryaVeerSavarkar. A man whose towering intellect and fierce courage scared the British so much that they locked him in this 7 by 11 foot jail in Kalapani for two life times (50 years). During the recce on his biopic I tried to lock myself inside this cell to feel what he must have gone through. I couldn’t stay locked for even 20 minutes where he was locked for 11 years often in solitary confinement,” he wrote in the caption along with the post.

“I imagined the unparalleled endurance of #VeerSavarkar who endured the cruelty and inhuman conditions of imprisonment and yet managed to build and inspire the armed revolution. His perseverance and contribution is unmatchable hence for decades the Anti India forces still continue to vilify him….Naman,” he further wrote.

In the upcoming movie “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,” Randeep Hooda takes on the lead role, joined by Ankita Lokhande. Directed and co-written by Randeep Hooda along with Utkarsh Naithani, the film dives into the fascinating story of Swatantrya Veer Savarkar—a visionary leader. Produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Randeep Hooda Films, in collaboration with Legend Studios and Avak Films, the movie aims to shine a light on Savarkar’s significant role in India’s fight for independence. The movie is set to be released on March 22, 2024.
