Mumbai: Actress Radhika Apte says she leans towards roles that are "meatier" and doesn't want to be just "an object" in a film.
"I like roles that are meatier and have some content, roles which are researched. A lot of homework was done for my part in 'Badlapur'. I like to play interesting parts and not just be an object in the film," Radhika told IANS in an interview.
In Sriram Raghavan's latest release 'Badlapur', the actress is seen embodying the character of Koko, the owner of a restaurant in the film. She says it was hard to relate to her character, and that's why it attracted her more.
The 29-year-old actress features in the film with Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiquui. She says it was an "absolute joy" to work with the latter because of his improvisations during shooting.
"We're really good friends now and I've always been really fond of his work. Working with him is an absolute joy because he improvises a lot and he's an excellent actor and it's quite inspirational," she said while speaking of Nawazuddin.
'Badlapur', which also stars Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam and Vinay Pathak in pivotal roles, released February 20.
The actress was always enthusiastic about acting since childhood and found her way to Bollywood through theatre.
"I always wanted to be an actor since childhood...I don't know what it was, there was no other option, I never thought of being somebody else.
"When I was in school and college, theatre was more accessible. And I love theatre, I've always loved to watch theatre. So I started doing theatre and then I started performing in Mumbai and other places in India, that's how I started getting films," she added.
Small screen is not an option for her as of now, it seems.
Asked if she's up for projects on TV, she said: "No, not really."
Radhika, earlier seen in films like 'Rakht Charitra' and 'Shor in the City', also has projects such as 'Hunterrr', 'Manjhi: The Mountain Man', a yet to be titled film with Anurag Kashyap and Telugu film 'Lion' in her kitty.
