When Malaika Arora Recalled the Night Before Her Divorce With Arbaaz Khan: 'My Family Asked Me...'

Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan met and fell in love in their early 20s. They got married in December 1998 and welcomed their first child together, Arhaan, in November 2002. The couple took the internet by shock when they separated after 19 years of marriage. Malaika had revealed on her show, Moving In With Malaika, that it was her who proposed to Arbaaz and she got married to him only because she wanted to get out of her house.

A few years back, Malaika had talked about how her family did not want her to go ahead with the divorce. “I think, sab ki pehli yehi raai hai ki mat karna. Koi aapko nahi kahega ki, ‘Haan, haan, please jayiye, kariye.’ That’s the first thing, ki aap soch samajh ke yeh decision lena. I went through the same thing,” India Today quoted her as saying on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s radio show.

Malaika recalled, “Even the night before I got divorced, I had my family sit with me and ask me yet again, ‘Are you sure? Are you 100 per cent about your decision?’ These are the people who worry and care so they will definitely say that,” she reportedly said on the show. She added: “Everybody said, ‘If this is the decision that you’re making, then we’re really proud of you and in our eyes, you are a strong woman.’ So for me, that kind of gave me that extra strength that I needed.”

Most recently, Malaika and her son Arhaan Khan discussed marriage, sex and relationship as they engaged in a spicy conversation for the latter’s vodcast, Dumb Biryani.

“The nation wants to know when are you getting married mother?” Arhaan asked Malaika, before adding, “I want an exact date, a venue, a destination and to whom.” To this, Malaika said, “I’m better off eating a mirchi. I can’t answer that. I don’t know have an answer to it. I think I’m living my best life now.”

Arbaaz Khan is now married to makeup artist Sshura Khan. They tied the knot in December 2023 at Arbaaz’s sister Arpita’s home in Mumbai. Malaika, on the other hand, is dating actor Arjun Kapoor. However, rumours are rife that all is not well between Malaika and Arjun.
