When Actor TP Madhavan Struggled With Health Issues After His 2015 Haridwar Pilgrimage
According to reports, in his later years, TP Madhavan struggled with memory loss.

Veteran Malayalam actor TP Madhavan died on Wednesday (October 9) at a private hospital in Kollam at the age of 88. The reason for his death has not been revealed. He was residing in Ernakulam before relocating to Thiruvananthapuram, where he developed a urinary infection. Afterward, he went to an ashram in Haridwar in 2015, but was hospitalised following a collapse. The doctors had detected a heart condition in his body. He also suffered from paralysis on both sides of the body. Since 2015, TP Madhavan has resided in Gandhibhavan, an old age home in Pathanapuram (Kerala), following a stroke. According to reports, in his later years, TP Madhavan struggled with memory loss. Television director Prasad took the initiative of shifting him to Gandhi Bhavan. According to the reports, few of TP Madhavan’s colleagues like Suresh Gopi and Ganesh Kumar visited him at this crucial time.

TP Madhavan was the son of the distinguished professor NP Pillai. He was born into a well-known family. A postgraduate student in sociology, TP Madhavan initially ran successful advertising agencies in Mumbai and Kolkata before making his debut in films. His acting career started at the age of 40 after a chance meeting with actor Madhu, who cast him in the film Priya. The 88-year-old actor’s contributions went beyond cinema, as he became the first General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). He served in the role for a decade, playing an important role in shaping the organisation and advocating for the welfare of his fellow artists.

In the later years, TP Madhavan suffered from health issues. Despite his health ailments, he continued to be honoured for his contributions to cinema. He bagged prestigious awards like the Ramu Karyat Award and the Prem Nazir Award while staying at Gandhi Bhavan. He last played an important role in the Malayalam film Maalgudi Days in 2016. He was initially well-known for portraying villain roles before transitioning to comedy and character parts.

TP Madhavan is survived by his daughter Devika and son Raja Krishna Menon, a prominent Bollywood director recognised for films like Airlift, Chef, and Pippa.
