Vijay Sethupathi admitted that he and Vignesh Shivan took time to understand each other.

Vijay Sethupathi has finally opened up about his fight with Vignesh Shivan. In a recent interview, the superstar revealed why he faced challenges with Shivan during the filming of their 2015 movie ‘Naanum Rowdy Thaan’ and shared that the two had several disagreements. He recalled dialling Vignesh after the first day of the film’s shoot when they even had an argument on call.

“After the first day of Naanum Rowdy Thaan shoot, I called Vicky (Vignesh Shivan) and fought with him. I told him, ‘You are trying to teach me acting. You haven’t understood me.’ After four days, Nayan(thara) asked me what’s the issue between you two. I told her that he was asking me to do Paandi character with more hip,” Sethupathi said as quoted by India Today.

However, Vijay Sethupathi admitted that he and Vignesh took time to understand each other. “When Vicky narrated the script, it was lovely. I was actually trying to emulate Vicky only, but it took time for us to understand each other. I think it was Vishnu Vishal who rightly told me that it wasn’t easy to play that character. If he cries, everyone should laugh. He is a good guy, but a fraud. I didn’t understand the character for the first four days, and in that time, I became very insecure,” he added.

Sethupathi further praised Vignesh and concluded by saying, “We wouldn’t even touch a subject like ‘Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal’. Nobody understands him. If you trust him and go along, he will create a lot of magic inside. Like that, so many experiences have made me what I am today.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Vijay Sethupathi’s MahaRaja finally hit theatres on June 14. Helmed by Nithilan Saminathan, it is an action drama which also stars Natty, Anurag Kashyap, Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Singampuli, Mamta Mohandas, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, and others in key roles. The movie is touted to be an intense drama, and its first-look poster featuring an injured Sethupathi in blood-soaked clothes sitting on a chair with a sickle in his hand proves it all.

Vijay Sethupathi just finished shooting for P. Aarumugakumar’s Ace, which starred Rukmini Vasanth opposite him. Other than this, the actor has several projects on his plate, such as the highly anticipated Viduthalai: Part 2 starring Vetrimaaran and Soori. Vijay Sethupathi will essay the role of Perumal Vaathiyaar in the film’s sequel, while Vetrimaaran will take over the director’s chair again. The makers have planned to release Viduthalai 2 on Diwali 2024.
