The third annual Sands International Film Festival took place this past weekend in the Scottish town of St Andrews, where a range of movies were presented and several industry leaders were in attendance. Tom Holland, the actor behind Spider-Man, was among those present. The festival began with a screening of Last Call, his latest film collaboration with his brother Harry Holland, which stars Tom and Lindsay Duncan. During the festival’s inaugural golf event, Holland spoke with Deadline about a possible fourth Spider-Man film.
Tom said, “The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more.”
The more “complex answer,” as Tom put it, was how he and the Spider-Man crew handle any Spider-Man sequel that doesn’t recycle themes from Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third instalment in his webbed series. He also stated that they have the finest in the industry working on whatever the subject could be. The actor remarked, “But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect.”
Tom went on to say that because the third film was so unique in so many respects, they must make sure they act appropriately. He also said that he had never been involved in the creative process this early. The actor further discussed how he was “watching and learning” as part of the “process.” In addition to providing him with a “fun stage,” Tom noted that the makers want to ensure that they aren’t “overdoing” similar things.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom alongside Zendaya, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, premiered in December 2021 and made $260 million its first weekend, becoming the second-highest opening ever for a domestic box office release. Eventually, it surpassed the billion-dollar milestone and recreated an iconic online meme.
Previously, Holland starred alongside Sasha Lane, Amanda Seyfried and Will Chase in the Apple miniseries The Crowded Room. The novel The Minds of Billy Milligan served as inspiration for creator Akiva Goldsman’s television series. He disclosed that he is presently engaged in many new ventures and that they’re currently in the process of “figuring it out.”
The actor continued by saying that they are awaiting the arrival of some scripts because they are now in the post-strike phase. Additionally, he mentioned that he is thrilled about a couple of projects he is working on and that fantastic screenplays are currently being received. “I read something the other day that absolutely blew my mind.”
