South Korean film Target hit the theatres last year in August. Nearly a year after its theatrical release, the crime thriller is now streaming on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. Starring Shin Hae-sun and Kim Sung-Kyun in the lead roles, the film is available in Korean, English and Hindi for the audience to watch.
The film, based on a true incident of a second-hand trader, was welcomed with a warm response upon its theatrical release. Fans showered the film with applause for its exceptionally engaging storyline. Besides, the top-notch cinematography and screenplay were too impressive to ignore. Consequently, the film ended its theatrical run with a collection of US $3 million (nearly Rs 20 crore). Directed by Park Hee-gon and written by Kim Dong-ho, the film also boasts a talented star cast including Lee Joo-young, Im Chul-soo, Noh Young-Hak and Keum Sae-rok.
The mystery thriller project has been backed by Fiona Films under their production banner. While Lee Seon-yong and Baek Yoon-seok came on board for the cinematography of Target, Han Young-gyu, and Han Eon-jae showcased their editing prowess. Additionally, the music of the film was composed by Jang Young-guy.
Speaking of Target’s storyline, it narrates the life of a working woman named Soo-Hyun. Her life takes a horrific turn after she buys herself a second-hand washing machine to save money. As she discovers that the electronic machine is broken, she decides to complain regarding the issue out of anger. Unaware of what was coming, she started looking for the seller, calling him a fraud on every post of her. As the woman continued her search, the seller started tracking her with the intent to murder her instead of replacing the old machines.
Portraying not just a victim who is being threatened but a woman who decides to take action as the culprit, Shin won hearts with her intense performance. In a statement, the actress opened up on how she nailed the role and said, “When something like this happens, there must be people who want to solve the problem in the same way. I could really identify with the main character who struggles to deal with it. And the atmosphere created by the art and props set up in Soo-hyun’s house, helped me get into my role.”
As for Kim Sung-kyun, the actor takes on the role of veteran detective Joo who is part of the cybercrime unit. He is tasked to investigate Soo-hyun’s case but while solving the crime, he finds himself in unsettling situations.
