On its 21st day, ‘Stree 2’, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, saw its lowest box office collection yet, raking in Rs 5.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Despite the dip in collections, the Amar Kaushik-directed horror comedy is maintaining a steady momentum. After 21 days, ‘Stree 2’ has matched the opening day collection of its rival, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’, which earned Rs 5.05 crore on its first day.
The drop in collections was anticipated, but with the upcoming weekend promising a surge in footfalls, ‘Stree 2’ is expected to bounce back. The film has already garnered Rs 520 crore nett and crossed Rs 750 crore globally.
‘Stree 2’ is now in close contention with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ (Rs 524.53 crore in Hindi) and may soon surpass the lifetime earnings of ‘Gadar 2’, which concluded its run with Rs 525.70 crore. Another Rs 5 crore day would allow ‘Stree 2’ to break Gadar 2’s record in just 21 days.
With Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ postponed, ‘Stree 2’ enjoys a clear run for another week, unaffected even by Tamil release ‘Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT’, which won’t get a wide Hindi release. Double-digit occupancy, particularly night shows exceeding 18% occupancy, is fueling the film’s strong third-week performance. ‘Stree 2’ is also inching closer to ‘Jawan’s’ lifetime Hindi box office record of Rs 584 crore and could surpass it before the month ends, ahead of the release of Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Devara: Part One’.
Stree 2 recently became the biggest Bollywood hit of the year, bringing joy to the film’s cast and crew. However, alongside the celebrations, a curious PR battle for credit erupted on social media between the movie’s lead actors. Addressing the situation, director Amar Kaushik has now spoken about the credit war and clarified that it hasn’t impacted the camaraderie among the team. He also pointed out that such situations often arise due to external influences, particularly when a film achieves significant success.
Talking to India Today about the social media frenzy, Amar explained, “Honestly, fans of stars usually have this fight on social media where they claim their favourite actor should get all the credit for the movie. It is okay. It is really to each their own. Fans getting into a social media war over credits is common. Also, when a film does well, people around [the stars] feed such things in the minds of everyone, including the cast, that they should get credit for the movie.”
Stree 2 is part of the Maddock supernatural universe, which also includes films like Bhediya and Munjya. Varun Dhawan’s character from Bhediya made a cameo in Stree 2 and fans have been eager to know whether the makers will release Stree 3 or Bhediya 2 first. Both Bhediya and Stree 2 were helmed by Amar Kaushik and were hits. In his recent interview, Rajkummar Rao shared his opinion on the next release under this genre.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rajkummar Rao was asked if Stree 3 or Bhediya 2 would release first. The actor initially stated that he was unaware of the makers’ plans. But then noted that Bhediya 2 could be released next. Rajkummar explained that while a sequel to Bhediya is yet to be released, Stree 2 is already in theatres. Therefore, he believes that the audience may witness the sequel to Varun Dhawan’s horror comedy before the third installment of Stree. Bhediya released in 2022 and also starred Kriti Sanon and Abhishek Banerjee.
