Noted supporting actor and comedian Visweswara Rao, 62, died on Tuesday, April 2 after suffering from a prolonged illness. He has garnered accolades for his impeccable portrayal of a comedian in 350 Tamil and Telugu films. He has also shown his phenomenal work as a child artist in more than 150 films. Not only films, Visweswara Rao’s body of work also extends to television serials. As per reports, his remains were kept at his residence in Siruseri, Chennai for the public and his colleagues to pay their last respects. The last rites were performed this morning.
Visweswara Rao hailed from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, and his family relocated to Chennai after he gained recognition as a child artist at the age of 6. He is fondly remembered for playing the role of Manju’s father (actress Laila) in the Tamil film Pithamagan, written and directed by Bala. Pithamagan emerged as a success at the box office and bagged the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South, and the National Film Awards as well.
During his illustrious acting career, Visweswara Rao got the opportunity to share the screen with many legendary actors like NT Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and MG Ramachandran. He also acted alongside the next legion of actors like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, and Pawan Kalyan. On many occasions, Visweswara Rao expressed his pride in acting alongside the three Chief Ministers – NTR, MGR, and J Jayalalithaa.
Fans have expressed their remorse at losing one of the finest actors of the Indian cinema.
Celebs from the Telugu film industry showed their last respects to Visweswara Rao. These actors included Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Jr NTR. Chiranjeevi put up a garland on the casket of the Pithamagan actor. Pawan Kalyan expressed his respects to the late actor with folded hands. Jr NTR was also spotted sharing his condolences for Visweswara Rao.
