Sonakshi Sinha is getting married to Zaheer Iqbal on June 23, as per reports. While Sonakshi and Zaheer are tight-lipped about the wedding, their family and friends Poonam Dhillon, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Daisy Shah confirmed the news. While fans are eager to see Sonakshi in a bridal avatar, the actress once said her father Shatrughan Sinha would never want her to get married.
Speaking with Bollywood Bubble in 2021, Sonakshi opened up about her family’s thoughts on her marriage. She said, “If it is up to him (Shatrughan Sinha) then he would never want me to get married. Mom sometimes drops that little bomb ki abhi toh time hogaya, (marriage) kar lena chahiye, and I just give her one look and then she’s like acha thik hai thik hai (laughs).
“No, there are not like I’m glad that they have given me that kind of independence where until I’m not ready they will not really like sit on my head and like ‘shaadi karlo beta’ because see, I’m happy with my work and I’m doing well,” she said at the time.
With the news of Sonakshi’s wedding making the headlines now, Shatrughan said he would support Sonakshi’s pick. “I am neither confirming nor denying her wedding news. Time will tell. She will always have my blessings,” Shatrughan told The Times of India. “Sonakshi is the apple of my eye. She is my only daughter and very close to me. I am a proud father because, over the years, she has also grown as an actor. From Lootere to Dahaad to now Heeramandi, she has proved to be a fantastic actor,” he added.
“If my daughter is getting married, I will give her my blessings and support her decision and choice. Sonakshi has the right to choose her companion, and I will be the happiest father on her wedding day. I will always wish her the best… ek hi toh beti hai meri,” Shatrughan said.
Meanwhile, Sonakshi and Zaheer’s wedding invitation was leaked online earlier this week, revealing details of their nuptials. “To all our hip, tech-savvy and jasoos friends and family who has managed to land on this page, hi,” the note began with Sonakshi greeting the invitees. “For the last seven years that we have been together, all the joy, love, laughter and many, many adventures has led us to this very moment,” Zaheer continued.
“The moment where go from being each other’s rumoured girlfriend and boyfriend,” Sonakshi said, before Zaheer added, “To being each other’s definite and official husband and wife.” “Finally! This celebration will not be complete without you so drop whatever you’re doing on the 23rd of June and come party with us. See you there,” the couple concluded the message.
