Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore reminisces about her granddaughter Sara Ali Khan, revealing her innate talent for acting. Reflecting on Sara’s childhood, she recalls how Sara was always entertaining. Sara, the daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, showed a natural flair for performance.
During a recent Mother’s Day event organized by YFLO, the 79-year-old actress shared that Sara had a knack for storytelling and playing pranks. Tagore also noted that Sara exuded tremendous confidence as a child, often speaking up and engaging with others.
The actress recalled, as quoted by the Indian Express, “She had that germ in her to do things. She would also often say things which were very outrageous. I remember when Saif was not well and Amitabh Bachchan had come to meet him in the hospital, they started conversing in Hindi. All the ‘Devrani, jethani, mami sa’ and then she invented a word and Amitabh said, ‘I don’t think that is quite right.’ She just made up a bogus word. She had that confidence, didn’t feel overawed by anybody. She was well behaved, but never held back. She was always very entertaining.”
Sharmila Tagore also opened up about her first time being a mother. She said that she had a busy work schedule when Saif Ali Khan was born and was an absent mother. However, by the time she had her daughters Saba Pataudi and Soha Ali Khan, she learnt from her previous experience and was there for them.
The Indian Express quoted Sharmila Tagore as saying, “When I had Saif, I was very busy. I was working two shifts a day and for the first six years of his life, I was really absent. I did whatever I had to do. I went to the parent-teacher meeting and attended his plays but I don’t think I was a full-time mom. My husband (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) was there, but I wasn’t. Then when I became a mother, I became an overzealous mother. I wanted to feed him, bathe him and everything. That was the other side of the pendulum. I made a few mistakes, honestly.”
“But he has grown up pretty okay. My husband was there, and we had the support of the extended family and my friends. One of his schoolteachers would live across the apartment in Mumbai. She and her husband really looked after Saif as well… For the girls I was there,” she added.
