Sanju: This is Why Aamir Refused to Play Ranbir's Father in Sanjay Dutt Biopic
Written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film also features Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Dia Mirza.

Rajkumar Hirani's highly-anticipated film Sanju has been making headlines ever since its announcement. Based on the life of Sanjay Dutt, the film has Ranbir Kapoor portraying the Khalnayak star and showcases the various facets of the yesteryear actor's life.

While, Ranbir's uncanny similarity to Sanjay Dutt has managed to grab all the eyeballs, not many were aware of the fact that superstar Aamir Khan was supposed to play the Rockstar actor's father in the movie. Yes, you read that right. Aamir was approached to portray Sunil Dutt in the biopic but the actor had refused the part which later went to Paresh Rawal.

In a recent interview with Outlook, Hirani cleared the air on the real reason why Aamir turned down the role.

"Aamir is a friend. Any script I write, I bounce it to him. When I narrated 'Sanju' to him, he loved it and said, ‘Main bhi kuch karta hoon (I should also do something in it).’ Then I said, do this (Sunil Dutt’s role). But he was already doing the role of an elderly man in 'Dangal' around the same time," said Hirani, who has previously collaborated with Aamir in blockbuster movie PK.

Written and directed by Hirani, Sanju also stars Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Dia Mirza. The film will release on June 29, 2018.
