Pawan Kalyan missed the bull’s eye last year with the film BRO, which failed to impress both audiences and critics. It did not do well at the box office either. The movie had big expectations as Pawan Kalyan shared the screen with his real-life nephew Sai Dharam Tej for the first time.
Burying the past behind, Pawan Kalyan is now gearing up for his release titled OG. OG is touted to be the most expensive film of Pawan Kalyan’s career and is directed by Sujeeth of Saaho fame. Despite his last film failing at the box office, Pawan Kalyan’s stardom, popularity and marketability remain intact as the streaming rights of OG have reportedly been sold at an astonishingly high price even before its release. “The digital rights for OG have been acquired for Rs 65 crore by a leading digital platform,” states a source. “This marks the highest price for a Pawan Kalyan movie in recent memory.” The name of the digital platform has not yet been revealed though.
Ace producer DVV Danayya is investing over Rs 200 crore in this film and is determined to recover his investment through strategic negotiations. According to a source, “OG is the most expensive film of Pawan Kalyan’s career, and he intends to prioritise this gangster movie after the elections to avoid further increases in production costs and interest rates on borrowed funds. As a result, he will allocate three weeks to work on this film beginning in June.”
OG went to the floors in April 2023 and stars Priyanka Mohan as the female lead. The film is set against the backdrop of the Mumbai Mafia and stars Emraan Hashmi as the main antagonist, marking his Telugu debut. On the occasion of Emraan Hashmi’s birthday on March 24, the makers of OG released the first look of the actor that shows him in a stylish avatar lighting a cigar. OG is slated for release on September 27 this year.
