Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut OTT directorial Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has been making the headlines. The director has taken his quintessential route for the period drama, featuring a star-studded cast, grand sets and exquisite song-dance numbers. Praise has been pouring in for the Netflix web series from all quarters, lauding the storytelling and performances. Now, actor-comedian Kapil Sharma has joined the bandwagon. Sharing a clip of Heeramandi’s Sakal Ban song on his Instagram Stories, the Zwigato star expressed his admiration for singer Raja Hasan for lending his magical vocals to the soulful track.
“What a beautiful song Raja Hasan. Loved it Sanjay Leela Bhansali," captioned Kapil Sharma. The comedian is also a skilled singer himself. The lyrics of Sakal Ban is penned by Amir Khusro. Amit Padhye, Vijay Dhuri, Shahzad Ali, Umesh Joshi and Shripad Lele are in the supporting vocals.
Featuring Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal, Sakal Ban captured the actresses decked up in gorgeous traditional outfits, swaying to the tunes of the melodious number inside a luxurious palace premise. The celebrities who play the role of courtesans in the show appear to be in a joyful mood, having a friendly girl banter in the clip. However, Sharmin Degal who essays the character of Alamzeb, the on-screen daughter of Manisha Koirala’s Mallikajaan displays a worried expression.
Last month, Kapil Sharma attended the special screening of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, hosted by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Mumbai. He was dressed in a black embroidered T-shirt and white loose-fitted trousers. A video of the comedian having an interaction with Karan Johar went viral. Other Bollywood luminaries who marked their presence at the event were Neetu Kapoor, Rekha, Ananya Panday, Aditya Roy Kapur, Vicky Kaushal, Ali Bhatt, Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Fardeen Khan, Farida Jalal, Adhyayan Suman, and Shekhar Suman in important roles. The eight-episode series revolves around the desires and struggles of the courtesans at Lahore’s Heera Mandi during the pre-independence era.
Meanwhile, the comedian king is hosting The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix. The last episode featured Aamir Khan spilling some never-before-heard anecdotes from his life. The Deol brothers — Sunny and Bobby will appear in the upcoming episode.
